Events at The Long Island Violin Shop In our Great Room we host musical events that educate, inspire and bring lovers of music and art together. Chamber Music Concerts, Master Classes, Poetry Readings, and Lectures by leading artists and experts are all part of our ongoing series. Saturday, February 18th - Janet Packer Master Class We are honored to present the distinguished violinist and pedagogue Janet Packer in her only Long Island appearance.On Saturday, February 18th from 1:00-3:00 PM, Ms. Packer will present a Master Class for high school students. Her theme will be: Best exercises to help students develop their style, bowing, and technique. Three students will have the opportunity to perform. If you want to play for Ms. Packer you should contact us immediately to make arrangements. Admission will be $10 advance purchase and $15 at the door. You may phone ticket orders to 631-427-3569. Following the master class, Ms. Packer will be performing with pianist Geoffrey Burleson on the Long Island Violin Shop String Poet Studio Series at 5 pm. Admission: $7 on-line, $8 in person. Nationally recognized as a distinguished educator, Janet Packer was chair of the Conservatory string department of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for twelve years and is a regular presenter at conferences, universities, music schools, and string seminars, and has been interviewed on National Public Radio and television. Her students, introduced to advanced concepts of analysis and historical style, have won competitions on state and national levels. Ms. Packer's only other New York appearance will be February 19 at the Nicholas Roerich Museum in New York City where she and Mr. Burleson will perform works by Krzyzstof Meyer, Vittorio Rieti, Debussy, and Pierné. |
