Oswald Schilbach & Son Violin
20th century instrument, labeled, Made for Oswald Schilbach & Son by Hienz Shoenfelder of Markneukirchen. Strad model.
Oswald Schilbach (1862-1947) was a German Violin maker who emigrated to the United States and had a shop in New York. Although not a prolific maker, his instruments are valuable in today's market and sell for tens of thousands of dollars. His workshop was in New York City and this instrument is labeled as above. It has a pleasant, yet broad, open tone, typical of German instruments from this time period.
Very attractive, medium amber/brown varnish, wide grain top, slightly antiqued. Very attractive, highly flamed one-piece back. This violin is in excellent / mint condition and is very comfortable and easy to play. Highly recommended for the advancing student.
