Every year, Master Violin Maker and owner of the Long Island Violin Shop, Charles Rufino, holds his acclaimed summer course, "Instrument Repair for String Educators (and Music Ed Students)", at Stony Brook University Department of Music.
This two-part course is open to any adult over 18 and is broken up into two workshops, a Beginner Course and Advanced Course. Both provide a hands-on experience for educators who want to learn about tackling common problems associated with bowed string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass).
The beginner workshop will be held: July 30 - Aug 3.
The advanced workshop will be held: Aug 6 - Aug 10.
Tuition: $600 per course.
Fee for tools & materials: $200 per course (students get to keep tools).
The application deadline for both workshops is June 30. At the end of the course, participants will receive 3 In-Service Credit Hours and 40 hours of Professional Development. Check with your school district to verify your eligibility.
